Sending

How do I send a fax?

Tap New Fax. Add pages by scanning them, picking a PDF from Files, choosing photos, or writing a page in the app. Type the fax number (or pick it from Contacts) and tap Send.

You can also send a PDF straight from Mail, Safari or Files: tap Share and choose FaxBuddy.

How do I type an international fax number?

Start with + and the country code, for example +49 for Germany or +81 for Japan. The flag next to the number changes to show which country it goes to. Numbers without a + are read as numbers in the country shown by the flag; tap the flag to change it. US and Canadian numbers work without +1.

Which countries can I fax to?

United States, Canada, Germany, Japan, United Kingdom, France, Ireland, the Netherlands, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Estonia, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium and Mexico. Every page costs one credit, whichever country it goes to.

Which numbers can’t I fax?

Premium-rate, shared-cost and personal numbers (such as German 0700 numbers) can’t be faxed. Neither can mobile numbers in Estonia, Italy, Switzerland and Belgium, where calls to mobiles cost far more than a page. Elsewhere, FaxBuddy warns you when a number looks like a mobile, because most mobiles can’t receive faxes.

How do I know my fax arrived?

While a fax is on its way, it waits at the top of Home under In progress, with its time ticking: how long it’s been sending, or how long until a scheduled fax goes. When it’s delivered you get a notification, and you can open the fax to share a receipt with the time it was delivered and the number of pages.

Can I schedule a fax to send later?

Yes. Tap Send Later and choose a time. The fax is sent from our servers at that time, even if your iPhone is off or offline. The credits are set aside when you schedule it; if you cancel, they come back.

Can I send to several people?

Yes. Tap Add another recipient under the number. Each recipient gets their own fax, and each one uses credits for its pages.

Is there a page limit?

Up to 50 pages and 20 MB per fax. Password-protected PDFs can’t be sent; remove the password first.

What if I close the app before sending?

Your fax is kept as a draft, with its pages, numbers and cover page. It waits at the top of Home as Continue your fax. Starting a new fax puts the old one aside as a draft too. Tap ✕ on a draft to delete it.

Can I receive faxes?

Not at the moment. FaxBuddy sends faxes only.

When a fax doesn’t go through

My fax says “Not delivered”. What now?

The fax didn’t reach the other machine, and the credits for it have already been given back to you. The fax shows the reason:

Busy: the line was in use. Try again in a few minutes.
Didn’t answer: the machine didn’t pick up. It may be switched off or out of paper.
Not a fax machine: a person or voicemail answered. Check that it’s the fax number and not the phone number.
Couldn’t be reached: check the country code and digits.

Tap Retry Fax to resend the same pages, or Edit Number to fix the number first.

It’s been “Sending” for a long time.

Long faxes can take a few minutes, and a busy line is retried on its own. If it hasn’t finished after 30 minutes, email us with the time you sent it.

It says delivered, but they didn’t get it.

“Delivered” means the receiving machine confirmed every page. Ask them to check the machine or their fax inbox, and share the receipt from the fax with them. If it still doesn’t turn up, write to us and we’ll look it up.

Credits and payment

How much does it cost?

One credit sends one page. Packs start at 5 pages for $3.99 and go down to $0.40 a page in the 100-page pack. Cover pages are free, and your first page is on us. The App Store shows prices in your own currency.

Do credits expire?

No. There’s no subscription and no time limit.

How do I get a refund?

If a fax isn’t delivered, its credits come back automatically. You don’t need to do anything.

Purchases are made through Apple, so refunds of money go through Apple: visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and choose the FaxBuddy purchase. Credits that Apple refunds are removed from your balance.

I bought credits but I don’t see them.

Make sure you’re online and reopen the app; your balance syncs with our servers. If they still don’t show up, email us with your Apple receipt (from the email Apple sent you) and we’ll add them.

I got a new iPhone. Where are my credits?

FaxBuddy has no sign-up, so your credits belong to the app on your iPhone. If you reinstall on the same iPhone they’re still there. For a new iPhone, email us with your Apple receipts and we’ll move your remaining credits across.

Privacy and your data

What happens to my documents?

Your pages are sent to our servers in the EU and passed to our fax provider to deliver them. They are deleted from both within 24 hours after the fax is delivered or fails. A scheduled fax is kept until it’s sent; a cancelled one is deleted at once. Your fax history stays on your iPhone.

How do I delete my data?

In the app, go to Settings → Delete Account & Data. This deletes your documents, faxes and credits from our servers and from our fax provider straight away. Unused credits are lost, so use them first. You can also email us and we’ll do it for you.

Does FaxBuddy read my contacts?

Only when you tap to pick a number from Contacts, and only the contact you choose. Your contacts are never uploaded. Spotting fax numbers printed on your pages also happens on your iPhone.

Still stuck?

We read every email.
