How to fax Australia from your iPhone

Medical practices, pharmacies, law firms and some government agencies in Australia still take documents by fax. You can fax them from your iPhone, wherever you are, for the same price as a fax at home.

Writing a fax number for Australia

Inside Australia, numbers start with a 0. From abroad, replace that 0 with +61:

Written asType in FaxBuddy
(02) 9876 5432 (Sydney)+61 2 9876 5432
(03) 9123 4567 (Melbourne)+61 3 9123 4567
(07) 3123 4567 (Brisbane)+61 7 3123 4567

You don’t need 011 or 00: the + does that. Once you type +61, the flag beside the number shows Australia. Or tap the flag, choose Australia, and type the number as it’s written there.

Step by step

  1. Tap New Fax and add your pages: scan them, or pick a PDF or photos.
  2. Type the number starting with +61, like +61 2 9876 5432.
  3. Add a free cover page if the office expects one, with who it’s for and who it’s from.
  4. Tap Send, or Send Later to have it arrive in office hours there.

Numbers you can’t fax

  • 1900 premium-rate numbers and 1300 numbers: FaxBuddy refuses them before you send, because calls to them cost far more than a page.
  • Mobile numbers (starting 04): FaxBuddy warns you, because mobiles almost never receive faxes. Look for the number marked “Fax”.

The time difference

Sydney is 14 to 16 hours ahead of New York, depending on the time of year: Australia and the US change their clocks in opposite seasons. Fax machines answer around the clock, but a fax that lands at night waits on a pile. Schedule it with Send Later and FaxBuddy sends it from our servers at that time, even if your iPhone is off.

What it costs

The same as any fax in FaxBuddy: one credit per page, to all 17 countries we fax, from $0.40 a page in the 100-page pack. Your first page is free, cover pages are free, and if the fax isn’t delivered, the credits come back. See all prices · All 17 countries.

Questions

Do I need to dial 011 to fax Australia from the US?

No. Type +61 and the number without its leading 0. The + replaces 011.

Is faxing Australia more expensive?

No. FaxBuddy charges one credit per page to every country it faxes.

Can I fax a mobile number in Australia?

FaxBuddy lets you, with a warning, but almost no mobile can receive a fax. Use the number marked “Fax”.

What if the fax doesn’t go through?

You see why (busy, no answer, not a fax machine), the credits come back automatically, and you can tap Retry Fax.
